GOOGLE has launched its own podcast app dedicated to playing the millions of podcasts available to Android users, and it's got AI smarts too.
Podcast playback on Android has, until now, been less than perfect but a new Google Podcasts app should change that.
The new Google Podcasts app allows Android users to find, subscribe and listen to podcasts from across the world.
The podcasts available on the app are organised and offer search functionality designed to make the process easier.
Apple already offers its own Podcasts app which also makes playback easy for iOS users on iPhones and iPads.
Google wants to make sure its Podcasts app is the best by adding artificial intelligence.
Google AI will help to make the experience better for the individual user by making recommendations based on that person's habits.

Google also wants to help broaden the diversity of podcasters. It says the top chart hits have less than a quarter which are by "women or people of colour".
Google will partner with the podcast industry. It says on its blog: "The program will be guided by an advisory board from around the world, with the primary goal of enabling skills development and experimentation from underrepresented voices, as well as cultivating ideas and processes that can scale throughout the industry. We’ll be rolling out more details this summer."
Google also plans to enhance its AI tech to make the experience even more smart.
The company has plans to offer automatic subtitling to the listening impaired thanks to AI speech-to-text technology developments. This could be helpful to those using headphones in a noisy environment.
This will also use Google Translate to offer subtitles in various languages worldwide.
