JOSE MOURINHO WILL BECOME THE NEW SPECIALIST IN FAILURE BY SELLING £58.5M-RATED PRODIGY

Sunday, May 20, 2018

Jose Mourinho once dubbed Arsene Wenger a ‘specialist in failure’ as part of their ongoing public feud which never ceases to fully escape the attention of the British media.
Wenger’s decision to leave Arsenal this summer will presumably cool the war of words which the two have exchanged in the years gone by, but there is reason to suggest that Mourinho may eventually be forced to take that title for himself.

There’s no doubt about it, Mourinho is a born-winner who possesses a genuine talent as a football manager. Regardless of the method of victory, Mourinho’s sides have a habit of digging out trophies even when the odds are stacked against them, but he has been guilty of failing plenty of individual players in his career.

Mourinho was manager of Chelsea when the club sanctioned the decision to allow Kevin de Bruyne to depart the club, and the Manchester City fans will be the first to tell you how the Belgian magician’s career eventually panned out.

The special one has also been guilty of tarnishing the careers of the likes of Juan Mata and more recently Luke Shaw, but one of the biggest failures of his career could be set to take place this summer with the sale of Anthony Martial.

Martial (valued at £58.5 million by Transfermarkt) has shown flashes of brilliance at United which suggest he could become a world class player in European football, however, he has struggled for consistency with the Red Devils in recent years.

Competition for places in United’s first-team has undoubtedly made life difficult for the French international as Alexis Sanchez, Marcus Rashford and Jesse Lingard are all challenging alongside him for a starting berth in Mourinho’s first-team.

It appears that Martial’s lack of involvement and United’s disappointment with his development will eventually result in his departure this summer, and if that proves to be the case they will certainly live to regret that decision in the seasons to come.

There’s no doubt that within the right environment and under the leadership of a manager who is willing to invest patience and trust into Martial, the 22-year old prodigy will eventually go on to be a world beater in European football, and when he finally realises the full extent of his potential Mourinho will have to be regarded as the new specialist in failure with regards to youth development
